Fantastic Maori Kumete late 19th century early 20th century

This a really fine Kumete from the Te Arawa Tribe from the Rotorua/Bay of Plenty Area. It is finely carved with two Tohunga (Priest-navgator) holding a Kumete a vassal to hold food or other objects. The carving is both strong and bold making for a magnificent center piece. The pieces dates to the late Victorian to early 20th century. A rare item indeed!

Tibetan Mandala Buddhist Protective Talismans 19th century

This is a Tibetan Talisman Astrological chart . These are used as a tool to instruct on auspicious days /months /years of 60 year cycle . This is a fascinating subject that I honestly know nothing about. But the beauty of the piece caught my eye.

Outstanding Netsuke of Raiden and woman bathing boxwood by Suketada Japan 19th Century

This little work of art is truly amazing! The suggestive nature of the piece is very subtle but if you look at Raidens expression its clear that he is aroused the tell tail sign is his finger on his lips. The carving is masterfully executed, these are seldom seen outside of museums. There is a very similar one in the V&A museum.

Shiko Munakata Japan 1903-1975 Woodblock

Shiko Munakata Born September 5, 1903 in Aomori, Japan Died 13th September, 1975 in Tokyo Japan. Regarded by many as one of the most significant Japanese artist of the 20th century. He has been rightfully compared to Picasso and called The Japanese Picasso! He has won numerous awards such as the Order of Culture Award which I may add is the highest award for an artist to obtain in Japan. And many more too numerous to list. This piece is significant due to the medium used silk instead of paper.
